Simple Pizza Sauce Recipe

Pizza Sauce Recipe Feature Image

There are numerous pizza sauce recipes in the world, but I decided to create my own because all the recipes I tried were too watery for our liking. This pizza sauce recipe is a lovely thick sauce with a mild, slightly sweet taste. It is great for anyone who doesn’t like spicy sauce – it is definitely kid-friendly! I have been making our own pizza sauce for years now. I have tweaked it over the years, but this is our current favorite. As a busy mom of 5, I appreciate it’s super easy and quick to make! It only takes a handful of ingredients. It is easy because you use your favorite canned tomato sauce as the base, then add the other ingredients and allow it to simmer for a few minutes. Add this sauce and your favorite toppings to homemade pizza dough, and you will have a fun and delicious meal! (You can find my homemade pizza dough recipe here.)

Ingredient List:

  • 14 ounce can of your favorite brand tomato sauce (we like Simple Truth Organic)
  • 6 ounce can of tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dry basil
  • 1 teaspoon dry Italian seasoning
  • 4 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Pizza Sauce Recipe:

1: In a small sauce pan add the tomato sauce and tomato paste.

2: Add in the basil, Italian seasoning, sugar, salt, and pepper.

3: Combine thoroughly with a whisk. You want to get it nice and smooth.

4: Cover with a lid. Slowly bring to a bubble/boil.

5: Stir. Reduce heat to low and allow to simmer for 15-30 minutes.

6: Use as a dipping sauce or for a pizza topping. Enjoy!
