Diffusing Essential Oils (Ultrasonically)
Diffusing essential oils has become much more common in recent years – which is wonderful! You may be familiar with why people diffuse essential oils, or perhaps you’re not certain what it’s all about. Maybe you may know exactly why you would like to diffuse essential oils but aren’t quite sure how. Maybe you are not sure which ultrasonic diffuser is best for your needs. If any of these uncertainties describe how you are feeling about diffusing essential oils, then this is a post you will want to read.
Why Diffuse Essential Oils
By diffusing essential oils directly into our air we are able to influence the feeling of the environment. For example, if you are feeling down, diffusing something bright and happy (like citrus essential oils) may help to boost your mood. Some reasons for you diffuse essential oils are:
- Eliminate unwanted odors from the air.
- Make the air smell a certain fragrance.
- To support our emotions in targeted ways.
You will get to learn which essential oils are best for your needs as you experiment with them. Remember, everyone is unique and each of us must find out what supports us best.
How to Diffuse Essentail Oils
While there are several ways that you can diffuse essential oils, one of the most popular and effective ways is to use an ultrasonic diffuser. An ultrasonic diffuser will put out a fine mist and disperse the essential oil molecules into the air you breathe. Setting up your diffuser is very simple and it only takes a few seconds to do it! You simply open the reservoir, add desired essential oils, top off with cool water, close the reservoir, and turn on. (You should not use hot or warm water when diffusing essential oils, because it could alter their delicate chemistry.) Read your owner’s manual for complete and detailed instructions for your specific diffuser.
Essential Oil Diffuser Care
Keeping your diffuser clean is imperative to its lifespan and functionality. It is also super easy to do. Wipe clean after use and allow it to dry out to keep mildew from developing. If you are using your diffuser daily, you may want to deep clean it weekly. Here’s how to clean your ultrasonic diffuser:
- Turn off and unplug the diffuser.
- Wipe out the reservoir with a damp cloth.
- Dip a cotton swab or q-tip in isopropyl alcohol and clean the ultrasonic plate to remove any extra buildup.
- Rinse the reservoir with water, then wipe it clean and dry up excess water with a soft cloth.
That was easy! Now your diffuser is clean and ready to use again.
Which Essential Oils Are Best To Diffuse?
Once you receive your diffuser you will probably want to start diffusing essential oils right away! After you unpackage and decide where to place it you are ready to diffuse. You may want to ask yourself what your reason is for diffusing at this very moment. Do you want a pleasant smell, or to rid odors in the air? Do you want something to support your body in some way? There are so many essential oils that you can choose to diffuse. To help get you started diffusing essential oils, I have listed some of our favorite diffuser blends!

How to choose a diffuser
There are a few details you will want to consider before choosing your essential oil diffuser. The size of the room you wish to diffuse in. What would look best with your home decor. How long you would like the diffuser to run. With those things in mind– we love the Young Living line of diffusers. They have some of the best diffusers to choose from and they come with a 1 year warranty. All of our diffusers are 1-2 years old and still run like they are brand new. Below I am listing some of my favorite beautiful, high quality ultrasonic diffusers with some of the details about them:
Young Living Aria Diffuser: Features an elegant wood and glass construction.

- Operation time: 12 hours maximum
- Features: Timed shut off, ambient light, remote control, music playback
The Aria diffuser is one of my favorite diffusers! My favorite feature is that it will run a full 12 hours. I also love how beautiful it is-the glass dome and solid wood base is such an eye catcher. Some things to keep in mind about the Aria diffuser: You have to be cautious not to break the glass dome when handling it. You have to make sure that if you drip any water or essential oils on the wood you clean it up. If you do not wipe it off it could stain or mildew the wood. Also, you can only turn the diffuser off and on if you lose the remote. You will not be able to change any other settings without the remote. So you will want to keep the remote in a safe place.
Young Living Desert Mist Diffuser: Designed to appear as an elegant vase that you can proudly display in your home without disrupting your decor.

The Desert Mist Diffuser is one of the most popular diffusers to begin with. This is the diffuser that I personally began diffusing with. I really love it because it is super easy to use, attractive, and will run for a full 8 hours. I also really love the candle-like flicker setting. It gives you the ambiance of a candle along with the benefits of essential oils!
Young Living Lantern Diffuser: Features exquisite metal and glass construction.

The Lantern Diffuser is one of the prettiest diffusers to choose from! If you like vintage or farmhouse décor you will most likely love this one. It is an eye catching diffuser that will make you smile. This diffuser is super easy to operate and clean as well. Once again, I really love the candle-like flicker setting that this diffuser has. It gives you the ambiance of a candle along with the benefits of essential oils!
Young Living Lustre Diffuser: Features an artisan handcrafted blown glass cover.

- Operation time: 6 hours maximum
- Features: Multiple LED light options. 3 timer options for automatic shut off.
The Lustre Diffuser has a beautiful artisan hand blown glass dome. This diffuser has alot of choices which is super neat! There are 3 timed settings: you can choose to set it to run for 60, 90, or 120 minutes. You can also set it to run on high for 6 hours or intermittent for 12 hours. Of course you will have to be cautious when handling the glass dome. The different light colors are very pretty shining through the milky white dome. The settings are displayed in blue LED light which I find annoying if I am trying to sleep.
Young Living Lucia Diffuser: Features an artisan handcrafted blown glass cover.

The Lucia Diffuser also has a beautiful artisan hand blown glass dome. I love that it looks like a vintage glass oil lamp. I like to use mine in the bathroom because it’s perfect for smaller spaces and short run times. It has a high diffusion mode that can run for 4 hours, as well as 3 timed settings so you can choose to set it to run for 60, 90, or 120 minutes. A couple of thing you may want to keep in mind. Because it has a glass dome you will need to be cautious handling it. The settings are displayed in blue LED light which I find annoying if I am trying to sleep. This is another reason why I really like this in my bathroom and not on my bedstand.

The Ember Diffuser is very stylish with the terra-cotta dome and rubberwood base. There is a small ring between the base and the dome that the light shines through. This luminous ring adds a subtle lighting – it makes a great nightlight! This diffuser will run on high for 3 1/2 hours or intermittent for 7 hours. You will have to show caution when handling the terra-cotta dome. It is simple diffuser to operate.
Young Living Haven Diffuser: Carefully crafted from natural porcelain ceramic.

The Haven Diffuser is a cute little porcelain diffuser that has a mid-century modern look. It is great for small spaces or when you want to diffuse for shorter run times. You are able to choose from 4 run settings: 1, 2, 3, or 4 hours. I love how petite this diffuser is and that it offers a dimmer option for the light. Of course since it is porcelian you will want to handle it with some care.
Young Living Rainstone Diffuser: Created with an exquisite and rare purple clay found only in a small region of China.

The Rainstone Diffuser has a very modern look; and it is a negative ionizer which is so neat! It has a few soft LED light choices and multiple run settings. You can choose from 5 different run times: 1, 2, 3, 6, or 8 hours. This includes a remote to choose your settings so you will want to keep that in a safe place.

The Feather the Owl diffuser is specifically created for children. My children absolutely love their Feathers and ask for me to set it up everyday. It has multiple light options and makes a fun nightlight. It is also a sound machine which is really nifty. There is also a Snowy the Owl diffuser which has all the same functions just in a trendy neutral owl. Easy enough to operate that my elementary age children can do it on their own.
Young Living Sweet Aroma Diffuser: Timeless basket-weave design in a soft cloud-blue color.

The Sweet Aroma Diffuser is another basic diffuser that is great for first timers. I really like the neutral basket weave that gives it a fun texture. It will run on high for 4 hours or intermittent for 8 which is great for any space. Easy for all ages to operate.

The Viya Car Diffuer is so exciting! You power it by using a USB cord. Young Living really thought of all the details with this one. It fits into your car’s cup holder and has a spill-proof reservoir. The attractive gray marbleized dome is finger print and dirt resistant. It has a few light settings and 2 run times. It will run on high for 2 1/2 hours or intermittent for 5 hours. I love that it keeps the air in your car smelling nice and fresh. And of course, my favorite thing is that I can now diffuse StressAway while dealing with stressful traffic situations.
